Colin Bonini’s journey in public service began when he became the youngest member of the Delaware Senate at age 29. Representing the 16th District, which includes Southern Kent County, Colin’s 28-year tenure is marked by unwavering dedication, energy, and a commitment to common-sense conservatism, making him a well-respected figure in Delaware politics.

Born in Mountain View, California, and raised in Stanford, California, Colin is the sixth of seven children and an identical twin. His father, Dr. Charles P. Bonini, is an emeritus Professor of Decision Sciences at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, recognized for “Bonini’s Paradox” in economic modeling. His mother, Cissie, was a professor of History. Colin’s twin brother, Griffin, serves as a Superior Court Judge in San Jose, California.

Colin’s academic journey led him to Delaware in 1988, where he attended Wesley College. He excelled academically, making the Dean’s List, serving as President of his Senior Class, and lettering in football, basketball, and tennis. Graduating in three years with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Colin went on to be the founder and owner of several successful business ventures.

During his time in the Senate, Colin established himself as a champion of fiscal responsibility and accountable government. Known for his principled stance, he holds the record for voting “NO” more frequently than any other legislator, steadfastly opposing bloated state budgets. Colin’s consistent advocacy for transparency and efficiency in government has earned him a reputation as a voice of reason in Delaware’s political landscape.

Colin met the love of his life, Dr. Melissa A. Harrington, in 1997 on an airplane. Dr. Harrington, who earned her PhD in Neuroscience from Stanford University, is the Associate Vice President of Research at Delaware State University. The couple married in 2001 and live on their 10-acre horse farm, “Black Dog Farm,” near Magnolia, Delaware, with their dog Maggie, four cats, and five horses.

Colin is now channeling his extensive legislative and business experience along with his dedication to public service into his campaign for Register of Wills. With a deep understanding of the needs of Kent Countians, Colin is committed to ensuring the Register of Wills office upholds the highest standards of integrity and service. His goal is to provide efficient, transparent, and compassionate service to the people of Kent County.
